Flange Shaft Seals, Rear Final Drive Removed, Replacing

• The oil seals can be only be replaced with the final drive removed.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Puller (T10037)

• Needle Bearing Drift (VW 295)

• Thrust Piece (T40108)

• Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

- General repair instructions, refer to => [ Repair Information ] Rear Final Drive 0BC (0B4A,0B2A,0B6A,0B5A,0BKA,0BCH,0BWA Transmission).

- Remove the rear final drive. Refer to => [ Rear Final Drive ] Rear Final Drive.

Right Flange Shaft, Removing






- Attach the (T10037) to the housing - arrow - and remove the flange shaft.

Left Flange Shaft, Removing






- Attach the (T10037) to the housing - arrow - and remove the flange shaft.

- Use a suitable tool to pry out the seal.








Install in reverse order of removal. Pay attention to the following:

Right Shaft Seal, Installing






- Coat the outer edge of the seal with axle oil.

- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip half way with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Drive in new shaft seal as far as stop without tilting it.

Left Shaft Seal, Installing






- Coat outer edge of the seal with axle oil.

- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lip half way with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Drive in new shaft seal as far as stop without tilting it.

Right and Left Flange Shafts, Installing






- Drive the flange shaft in using a (VW 295).

- Install the rear final drive. Refer to => [ Rear Final Drive ] Rear Final Drive.

- Checking the gear oil in rear final drive. Refer to => [ Rear Final Drive Gear Oil, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.

Flange Shaft Protective Ring, Replacing

• Punch (VW 412)






• Pipe (3146)






• - 3 - Separating tool 22 to 115 mm , for example, (Kukko 17/2)

• Protective ring installation location - A -: the larger outer diameter of the protective ring faces toward the flange.
