ATF, Draining and Filling
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• ATF Filling Tool (V.A.G 1924)
• Protective goggles
ATF, Draining
• The engine is off.
• Move vehicle onto a four-pillar shop hoist or over a work pit so that it is absolutely horizontal.
• The selector level is in "P".
• The parking brake button should be activated to close the electro-mechanical parking brake.
- Remove the rear noise insulation - 2 -.
- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.
Danger of eye injury.
• Wear protective goggles.
- Remove the ATF drain plug - arrow - and let the ATF drain out.
There is a risk of damaging the transmission.
• Do not start the engine when there is no ATF in the transmission.
• Follow the disposal requirements.
• Replace the ATF drain plug seal.
- Tighten the ATF drain plug.
There are 2 different ATF filter versions depending on the engine and the date of manufacture. ATF pipe filter - 5 - and ATF filter - 10 -.
On Transmissions with an ATF filter - 2 -:
There is a risk of damaging the transmission.
• Always replace the ATF filter - 2 - every time the ATF is changed.
- Replace the ATF filter. Refer to => [ ATF Filter ] ATF Filter.

Fill the Transmission with ATF
There is a risk of damaging the transmission.
• Only use replacement part ATF for the S-Tronic transmission
• Allocation, refer to the Parts Catalog
• Using other types of ATF ATF can result in the malfunctions or transmission failure.
• The ATF filler tool must be clean and the ATF must not be mixed with any other oils.
- Fill the (V.A.G 1924) with ATF for S-Tronic transmission; ATF specification, refer to the Parts Catalog.
- Secure the reservoir of (V.A.G 1924) as high as possible on the vehicle.
There is a risk of damaging the transmission.
• Engine must not be started if only a small amount or no ATF is in the transmission after repair work or after significant ATF loss.
- Remove the ATF check plug - arrow -.
- Engage the filler hook from the ATF filler tool system (V.A.G 1924) into the ATF inspection opening.
- Add ATF using the (V.A.G 1924) until ATF drips from the check hole.
- Move the selector lever into "P".
- Start the engine, wait 20 seconds and then turn it off.
- Add ATF using the (V.A.G 1924) until ATF drips from the check hole.
- Start the engine and let it run in idle.
- Continue to add ATF using the (V.A.G 1924) until ATF starts to come out again from the check hole.
- Check the ATF level and correct if necessary. Refer to => [ ATF, Checking Level and Correcting ] ATF, Checking Level and Correcting.
• Follow the instructions and test requirements for "checking the ATF level".
- Install the noise insulation.
