Rain Sensor

Removing





• If the sensor foil is damaged when removing rain sensor, this must be replaced before re-installing.

- Rearview mirror removed.

- Remove clamps - 3 - from mirror base retaining plate - 1 -.

- Disconnect the rain sensor connector.

- Remove rain sensor from mirror base.

- A sensor foil remains affixed to the windshield.

- If the same windshield is reinstalled, remove this completely from the windshield.

- Clean the surface with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

Installing

• If the same rain sensor is reinstalled, proceed as described.

- Remove the rest of the sensor foil from the rain sensor, if necessary.








- Also clean the surface with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

Sensor surface must be completely free of foil remnants.

- Remove silicone paper from sensor foil.






- The transparent protective film remains on the sensor foil as an installation aid.

- Place the sensor film on the rain sensor using clear protective film.






- Press sensor foil as shown in - direction of arrow - onto rain sensor without bubbles.






- Then remove transparent protective foil from sensor foil.






- Spray entire surface of sensor foil with cleaning solution D 009 401 04 and insert sensor in mirror base.






Rain sensor must be free of inclusions and bubbles on the windshield to function properly.

- Press sensor clips on mirror base.

Replacing rain sensor

• To remove sensor, proceed as described above.

- If necessary, completely remove foil remnants from windshield.

- Clean sensor contact surface on windshield with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.






- Peel off protective foil from rain sensor.






- Spray entire surface of sensor foil with cleaning solution D 009 401 04 and insert sensor in mirror base.

- Press sensor onto windshield without bubbles and place clips on mirror base.

Rain sensor must be free of inclusions and bubbles on the windshield to function properly.

Retaining clip, releasing





- Disconnect electrical connector.

- Press clip - 2 - outward at - arrows -, for example, with a small screwdriver.

- Remove clips - 2 - from mirror base - 1 -.

- Remove the rain/light recognition sensor (G397) - 3 - from the mirror base.

- A sensor foil remains affixed to the windshield.

- If the same windshield is being installed, remove the sensor foil from the glass including any remaining adhesive.

- Clean the surface with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

Install the rain/light recognition sensor (G397)

If the same rain/light recognition sensor (G397) is being installed, then the sensor foil must be replaced.
