Thorax (Side) Airbag Igniters (N199)/(N200)

Removing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components ] Description and Operation.

Follow the additional safety precautions when working with the side airbag. Refer to => [ Side Airbag, Additional Safety Precautions ] Side Airbag, Additional Safety Precautions.

Follow all regulations when disposing of pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal.

- Remove the front seat:

Standard seat and sport seat (manual), refer to => [ Manual Standard Front Seat ] Manual Standard Front Seat.

Standard and sport power seat, comfort seat and super sport seat, refer to => [ Power Standard Front Seat ] Power Standard Front Seat.

- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Installing the Front Seat on VAS 6136 ] Installing the Front Seat On VAS 6136.

- Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover Assembly Overview ] Backrest Cover Assembly Overview.

- Remove the front backrest:

Standard seat and Sport seat (manual), refer to => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.

Standard and sport power seat, comfort seat and super sport seat, refer to => [ Backrest ] Backrest.

- Free up the wiring harness - 1 - from the connector station to the side air bag.






- Remove the seat cover from the seat backrest until the side airbag screw - 6 - is accessible. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover with Cushion ] Backrest Cover With Cushion.

- Remove the bolt - 6 -.

- Remove the side airbag - 5 - with the hooks - 2, 3 and 4 - from the seat backrest frame while guiding the side airbag wiring harness.

Installing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components ] Description and Operation.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

- The threaded bolt hole - 6 - must always be cleaned (for example, using a thread tap)






- Replace the bolt each time it are removed.

- Insert the bolts with locking compound; locking compound. Refer to electronic parts catalog.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.
