Headrest Guide
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Fixture for Seat Repair (VAS 6136)
Removing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components ] Description and Operation.
• Before handling any airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Remove the front seat. Refer to => [ Power Standard Front Seat ] Power Standard Front Seat.
- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Installing the Front Seat on VAS 6136 ] Installing the Front Seat On VAS 6136.
- Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover ] Backrest Cover.
- Remove the backrest cover and cushion/head restraint. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover and Cushion, Super Sport Seat ] Backrest Cover and Cushion, Super Sport Seat.
Headrest guide without release button
- Press the retaining tabs - arrows - on the headrest guide - 1 - toward the center of the headrest guide.
- Hold the retaining tabs down.
- Pull the headrest guide up out of the backrest frame - 2 -.
Headrest guide with release button
- Press the retaining tabs - arrows - on the headrest guide - 1 - toward the center of the headrest guide.
- Hold the retaining tabs down.
- Pull the headrest guide up out of the backrest frame - 2 -.
Installing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components ] Description and Operation.
• Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order. Note the following:
Headrest guide without release button
• When sliding the headrest guide - 1 - in, make sure the tab - 3 - engages correctly on the backrest frame - 2 -.
• Ensure retaining tabs - arrows - are engaged in the backrest frame correctly.
Headrest guide with release button
• The figure shows the backrest frame of the power front seat. The backrest frame of the super sport front seat is similar. The only difference is the additional bracket in the top area.
• When sliding the headrest guide - 1 - in, make sure the tab - 3 - engages correctly on the backrest frame - 2 -.
• Ensure retaining tabs - arrows - are engaged in the backrest frame correctly.
Continuation for headrest guide without and with release button
• Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect the battery Ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on.
• If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to the vehicle diagnostic tester.
