Clean Working Conditions
Paint damage.
• Hydraulic fluid will damage the paint. Wipe up any hydraulic fluid that leaks onto painted surfaces.
Even very small particles of dirt can cause a fault. Follow the rules of cleanliness when working on the hydraulic system:
• Clean connecting points and surrounding areas before loosening.
• Before opening the hydraulic system, open the filler plug on the fluid reservoir to even out the pressure in the system and then close it again to the tightening specification.
• Always check the fluid level and add more fluid if necessary whenever work was performed on the hydraulic system.
• Seal off all open lines and connections immediately with clean plugs taken, for example, from the engine bung set (VAS 6122).
• Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover. Use foil and paper. Do not use cloths with lint!
• Carefully cover or seal opened components if the repair will not be done immediately.
• Only install clean parts: remove replacement parts from the packaging immediately prior to installation.
• Place collecting container or foil and cloths under connections to be opened so that hydraulic fluid does not come into contact with painted surfaces.
• If the system open: do not work with compressed air. Do not move the vehicle if at all possible.
• Protect any disconnected connectors from dirt and moisture and connect them only when they are completely dry.
