Lane Change Assistance Control Modules (J769)/(J770), Calibrating

Lane Change Assistance Control Modules (J769)/(J770), Calibrating

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Calibration tool (VAS 6350)

Conditions

- The lane change assistance control module (J769) or lane change assistance control module 2 (J770) must be calibrated in the "Guided Fault Finding" or "Guided Functions" operating mode under the following conditions using the Vehicle diagnostic tester:

The lane change assistance control module was replaced.

The rear bumper was damaged.

The rear bumper was removed and installed.

The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) "no or incorrect basic setting/adaptation" is stored in the DTC memory.

Procedure

- Place the vehicle on a solid, level surface.

- Activate the parking brake - the vehicle must not move during measurement.

- Place the front wheels in straight the ahead position - steering wheel in 0 position.

- Connect the vehicle diagnosis tester.

If a malfunction message appears in the display, refer to the vehicle diagnosis tester operating instructions.

- Switch on the ignition.

- Remove the sticker with metal foil from the bumper cover if necessary.

- Secure three SW 19 wheel bolt adapters with wheel bolts to each wheel center sensor (VAS 6350/1).

- Insert the measuring paddle on both wheel center sensor (VAS 6350/1) and secure with a lock nut.

- Place the wheel center sensor (VAS 6350/1) on the wheel bolts on both rear wheels.

Wheel center sensor (VAS 6350/1) rotation center must be in the wheel rotation center.

Place the wheel center sensor (VAS 6350/1) on the wheels so that the "anti-theft wheel bolts" are not connected with the wheel center sensor.

- Adjust the measuring paddle with the aid of lock nuts so that they move freely just above the floor.

The measuring paddles must move easily.

The measuring paddles must be vertical.

- Position the calibration tool (VAS 6350) at distance - a - from the rear wheels.

Dimension - a - = 1,700 mm ± 2 mm

- Switch the spacing laser (VAS 6350/2) on with the ON button.

Display on the spacing laser (VAS 6350/2) :

"- - - m"

Laser is switched on at the same time.

- For distance measurement, hold the spacing laser (VAS 6350/2) - item 2 - flush to the right stop bracket as illustrated.

The spacing laser (VAS 6350/2) lies firmly against the catch bracket.

- Make sure the "laser beam" for the distance measurement contacts the paddle on the lower enlarged part - 1 -.

If this is not the case, the measure paddle height must be corrected using lock nuts on the wheel center sensor (VAS 6350/1).

- Briefly press the ON button for distance measurement.

Display on the spacing laser (VAS 6350/2) :

"1,700 m" (specified value: 1,700 ± 2 mm).

- Repeat the measurement procedure from the left catch bracket to the left rear wheel.

The distance value must be the same on both sides.

If both measured values are not the same, adjust the (VAS 6350) accordingly.

- Select the path "calibration" after selecting "lane change assistance".

The following information clarifies which version of the lane change assist is installed (version SWA1.7).

This information for adjusting the calibration device is important for later steps in the procedure to avoid malfunctions.

- Secure the calibration tool for lane changing assist (VAS 6350/4) at the rear right of the calibration tool (VAS 6350) mount.

When installed correctly, the vehicle electrical system voltage wire must be connected at the bottom left of the calibration device (as seen in direction of travel).

Dimension - a - is measured from upper edge of calibration device to the floor.

- The indicator on the base of the lane change assistance calibration device (VAS 6350/4) must align with the setting on the measurement scale - 1 - on the measuring field - arrow -.

- Connect the lane change assistance calibration device (VAS 6350/4) to the vehicle electrical system voltage.

- Bring the (VAS 6350) into the horizontal position by turning the plastic base.

Observe the bubble level (sight glass) on the calibration tool (VAS 6350) - arrow -.

- Switch the line laser (VAS 6350/3) on the (VAS 6350) on.

- Put on the "Laser eye protection".

- Align the (VAS 6350) so the line laser (VAS 6350/3) strikes the center of the brand emblem on the rear lid.

- Check the left and right distance between the catch bracket on the (VAS 6350) and the measuring paddle - 1 - on the wheel sensors again.

Specified value: 1700 ± 2 mm

Calibration Procedure

The following should not occur during the calibration procedure:

No metal reflectors may be located within a 2 m radius of the calibration device (such as tool carts, metal cabinets).

Vehicle doors must not be opened or closed.

People should not sit in the vehicle.

People should not go between the vehicle and the calibration tool for lane changing assist (VAS 6350/4).

Procedure

- Switch the calibration tool for lane changing assist (VAS 6350/4) on at the power switch - 3 -.

The green Light Emitting Diode (LED) - 1 - must light up.

If the red LED - 2 - lights up: Check the calibration tool for lane changing assist (VAS 6350/4).

- Follow the instructions on the vehicle diagnosis tester display.

During the course of the program, a request is made to switch the calibration tool for lane changing assist (VAS 6350/4) from the right to the left side of the calibration device (VAS 6350).

- Switch the calibration tool for lane changing assist (VAS 6350/4) off and move the device.

When installed correctly, the vehicle electrical system voltage wire must be connected at the bottom left of the calibration device (as seen in direction of travel).

Dimension - a - is measured from upper edge of calibration device to the floor.

- The indicator on the base of the lane change assistance calibration device (VAS 6350/4) must align with setting on measurement scale - 1 - on measuring field - arrow -.

- Switch the calibration tool for lane changing assist (VAS 6350/4) on at the power switch - 3 -.

The green LED - 1 - must light up.

- Follow the instructions on the vehicle diagnosis tester display.

- After calibrating the lane change assistance successfully, end "calibration", switch off the ignition and disconnect the diagnostic connector.
