Input Shaft Seal, Replacing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Puller (T10055)

• Press Tool for Shaft Seal (T10180)

• Sleeve for Shaft Seal (T10186)

• Sheet metal screw

Procedure






- Remove the transfer case.

- To remove seal, install a sheet metal screw of approximately 4 mm diameter in shaft seal - arrow -.

• Install sheet metal screw in so that it jams between seal and metal ring.

• Be careful not to install the screw too deep otherwise the bearing underneath will get damaged.

- Remove seal with (T10055).

- Coat the sealing lips - arrow - on the new shaft seal with ATF.






- First position the (T10186) onto input shaft so that the shaft seal is not damaged when installed.






- Then, drive in new seal up stop using (T10180). Do not tilt shaft seal when doing this.

- Install the transfer case.
