Engine and Transmission, Separating

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Bracket (30 - 211 A)

Socket (T40058)

Scissor-Type Assembly Platform (VAS 6131 A)

Support Set (VAS 6131/10) , Supplementary Set Audi A6 (VAS 6131/12) , Supplementary Set, Audi Q7 (VAS 6131/13) and Transmission Support (VAS 6131/14)

Joint Support (VAS 6131/13-7)

Socket (T40058)

Oil Collection and Extraction Device (V.A.G 1782)

Engine Bung Set (VAS 6122)

Two M10 x 35 bolts with a 30 mm washer

Procedure

The engine/transmission subassembly is removed and placed on the (VAS 6131 A).

During installation, cable ties must be installed at the same location.

- Remove the generator.






- Equip the (VAS 6131 A) with (VAS 6131/10) , (VAS 6131/12) and (VAS 6131/13) and (VAS 6131/14) as follows:






The other attachments remain unchanged.






- Attach the (VAS 6131/13-7) to the front of the engine into the threaded holes.






- Attach the (VAS 6131/13-7) to the scissor lift table also with (VAS 6131/10-1) using an M10 x 35 bolt - arrow - and washer.

- Attach the mounting elements from (VAS 6131/10) , (VAS 6131/12) , (VAS 6131/13) and (VAS 6131/14) to the transmission as illustrated.






- Prepare the mounting elements from (VAS 6131/12) and (VAS 6131/13) for supporting the driveshaft as illustrated.

- Tighten (VAS 6131/12-2) with an M10 x 35 bolt - arrow - and 3 mm washer.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - from the left catalytic converter.






- Remove the bolt - 1 - and nuts - arrows - from the right catalytic converter.






- Remove the bolt - 3 - and then remove the left catalytic converter with the front muffler.






- Remove the bolt - 1 - and then remove the right catalytic converter with the front muffler.

Ignore - 2 and 4 -.

- Free up the ventilation hose - 4 -.






- Remove the bolts - arrows -.

Ignore - 1, 2 and 3 -.

- Remove the bolts - 1 and 2 -.






Ignore - 3 -.

- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.






Observe the rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions.

- Remove the bolts - 1 and 2 - and then remove the ATF lines from the transmission.

- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the (VAS 6122).

- Remove the bolt - 1 -.






Ignore - 2 -.

- Remove the nut - 1 - and bolts - arrows - from the right engine mount.






- Lift the engine with the (VAS 6131/13-7) just far enough until it is possible to remove the right engine mount.






Ignore - arrow -.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the right engine support - 1 -.






- Disconnect the connector - 4 -.






- Remove the nuts - 1 and 3 - and free up the battery positive wire.

- Remove the bolts - 2 and 5 - and remove the starter.

- Install the engine support and the engine mount for the following procedure. Refer to => [ Subframe Overview ] Subframe Overview.

- Insert the (T40058) guide pins as follows:






The large diameter - arrow 1 - faces the engine.

The small diameter - arrow 2 - faces the adapter.

- Counter hold the crankshaft and loosen the torque converter bolts using a (T40058) and a ring wrench.






When mounting, turn the crankshaft only in the direction of engine rotation - arrow -.

- Remove the cover - 2 -.






- Turn the crankshaft 120° in the direction of engine rotation and remove the 6 torque converter bolts - 1 - inside the opening in the starter.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - at the transfer case/front driveshaft connection.






- Remove the transmission/engine bolts - 3 through 11 -.






- Loosen the side bolts - 1 - on the (VAS 6131 A) and the pull the rear table plate and transmission slightly toward the rear - arrow -.






- Push the torque converter off the drive plate and through the opening for the starter.

- Secure torque converter in transmission against falling out with (30 - 211 A).
