Engine Carrier
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)
• Bracket with Spindle and Hook (10 - 222 A /10) , qty. 2
• Adapter (10 - 222 A /19)
• Adapter (10 - 222 A /22)
• Engine Support Basic Set (T40091)
• Engine Support Supplement Set (T40093)
Removing
- On vehicles with air suspension, activate vehicle lift mode.
Risk of destroying electronic components when disconnecting the battery.
• Observe measures for disconnecting battery.
- Disconnect the Ground (GND) cable - 4 -.
- Remove the air filter housing.
- Remove the noise insulation - 1 and 2 -..
- Remove the left and right front wheel housing liners..
- Remove the stabilizer bar.
- Mount the (10 - 222 A) and the (10 - 222 A /22) and the engine supplement set (T40091/3) on the fender bolting edge.
- Install the other parts as illustrated. Position the (10 - 222 A /19) on the notches on the longitudinal members.
- Engage the (10 - 222 A /10) into the rear engine lift eyes.
- Slide supports (T40091/2) with both sliders (T40093/5) into both mounts (T40093/4).
- Install the long spindles from the (10 - 222 A) and attach the hooks to the engine lifting eyes.
There is the risk of an accident.
• Secure support (T40091/2) with connector pins and (T40093/4).
- Slightly tension the engine but do not lift it.
- Remove the left and right bolts - arrows - from the engine mount.
• Ignore - 1 -.
- Remove the 2 bolts and then remove the steering gear heat shield - A -.
The airbag spiral spring could be damaged.
• Separate the universal joint from steering gear only when the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
• Do not change steering wheel position and steering gear position any more, secure steering wheel with adhesive tape.
- Remove the universal joint bolt - B -.
- Remove universal joint from steering gear.
- Free up the coolant hoses - arrow -.
- Disengage the power steering hydraulic line from the left bracket on the subframe.
- Disconnect the connector - 3 -.
- Press the release buttons and remove the secondary air hoses - 1 -.
- Remove the nuts - 2 - and loosen the nut - 5 -.
- Remove the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump motor (V101) and bracket.
• Ignore - 4 -.
- Mark location of the subframe and engine carrier to the longitudinal members with a felt-tip pen.
The subframe could cause an accident if it is not secured.
• The subframe bolts - 2 - and the transmission carrier bolts - 1 - must never be loosened.
- Remove the bolts - 3 and 4 - then lower the subframe with the front engine carrier.
- Remove engine carrier forward.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
• For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Subframe Overview ] Subframe Overview.
• The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
• Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
- Tighten the subframe.
- Install the AIR pump motor. Refer to => [ Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor (V101) ] Service and Repair.
- Install the universal joint on the steering gear.
- Install the engine mount. Refer to => [ Engine Mount ] Engine Mount.
- Install the stabilizer bar.
- Install the front wheel housing liners and noise insulation..
- Install the air filter housing.
- Follow all steps after connecting the battery.
- On vehicles with air suspension, deactivate vehicle lift mode.
