Rear Brake Caliper Assembly Overview, Brembo 17" and 18"
• After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.
• Use Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit (VAS 5234) to extract brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir.
• Before removing brake caliper or disconnecting brake hose, brake pedal actuator (V.A.G 1869/2) must be inserted (this dissipates pressure).
1 Brake Disc/Brake Drum
• Brake disc thickness and wear limit, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
• Brake drum: diameter and wear limit, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.
• Brake disc/brake drum not directional.
• Remove brake caliper before removing.
2 Bolt
• 14 Nm
• Brake disc to wheel bearing housing.
3 Screw Plug
• 14 Nm
• For adjustment nut of parking brake.
4 Brake Caliper
• Do not unscrew brake line when replacing brake disc.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Caliper ] Brake Caliper.
• Servicing, refer to => [ Rear Brake Caliper Assembly Overview ] Rear Brake Caliper Assembly Overview.
• Except for "servicing rear brake caliper", it is not permitted to perform repairs to the brake caliper.
5 Bolt
• 180 Nm
• Always replace after removal.

8 Brake Pads
• With wear indicator.
• With adequate wear, warning light in instrument cluster comes on.
• Brake pad thickness and wear limit, refer to => [ Brakes ] Brakes.
• Must always be replaced together on both sides of vehicle.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Pads ] Brake Pads.

• Bolt to brake caliper housing.
14 Bolt
• 8 Nm
15 Spring Clamp
16 Brake Line
• 14 Nm
• Install in the brake caliper housing.
• Do not unscrew brake line when replacing brake disc.
17 Brake Hose
• Do not unscrew brake hose when replacing brake disc.
• Make sure that lugs are properly seated in grooves in bracket.

20 Right Tension Spring
• Use a commercially available brake spring pliers, for example, HAZET Number 797, to disengage and engage the tension spring.
• Component location: At adjustment nut.
• Note the distinguishing characteristics of the left tension spring => [ (Item 21) Left Tension Spring ] :
• Larger number of spring coil.
• Can be easily bent by hand.
21 Left Tension Spring
• Use a commercially available brake spring pliers, for example, HAZET Number 797, to disengage and engage the tension spring.
• Component location: At spreader.
• Note the distinguishing characteristics of the right pull spring => [ (Item 20) Right Tension Spring ] :
• Smaller number of spring coil.
• Cannot be easily bent by hand.

23 Adjustment Nut
• Adjust parking brake, refer to => [ Parking Brake, Adjusting Basic Setting ] Parking Brake, Adjusting Basic Setting.
24 Brake Shoes
• Without wear indicator.
• Minimum pad thickness 1 mm
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Parking Brake Shoes ] Service and Repair.
25 Brake Disc Cover Plate
• 20 Nm
