Flange Shaft Seal/Driveshaft on Front Final Drive, Driveshaft Removed
• Identifying and allocating the front final drive, refer to => [ Front Final Drive 0BM, 0C1 Identification ] Front Final Drive 0BM, 0C1 Identification.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Puller (T10055)
• Assembly Tool (T10430)
• Thrust Piece (T10430/1)
• 4 mm diameter screws (2)
• Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)
Removing
- Remove the front final drive, refer to => [ Front Final Drive ] Front Final Drive.
- Remove the O-ring - 1 - and locking ring - 2 - off.
- First use a drift to tap two holes in the dust cap to install the screws - arrows - in the dust cap.
- Screw in 4 mm diameter screws.
- Use the (T10055) to pull the dust cap off.
- Use a drift to tap two holes in the shaft seal.
- Screw in 4 mm diameter screws - arrows -.
• Do not damage the sealing surface on the drive axle.
• Do not screw the screw in too tight or you will damage the bearing that is behind it.
- Use the puller (T10055) to pull the shaft seal off.
Installing
- Use an adhesive strip to remove the stub shaft splines.
- Lightly oil the shaft seal on the outer circumference.
- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).
- Slide the new shaft seal all the way up to the seal on the final drive.
- Do not tilt the shaft seal while using the (T10430) to push the shaft seal on all the way through to the stop.
- Use a thrust piece (T10430/1) to push the new dust cap on.
- Install the new O-ring - 1 - and the new locking ring - 2 -.
- Install the front final drive => [ Installing ] Front Final Drive.
- Check the transmission fluid level for the front final drive, refer to => [ Axle Oil Level, Checking ] Axle Oil Level, Checking.
