Removing

- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (ND) wire. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Remove the front engine cover - 1 -.

Hot vapor/hot coolant may escape when opening the coolant reservoir. Cover the cap with a cloth and open carefully.

- Remove the cap from the coolant reservoir.

- Remove the air filter housing.

Danger of serious personal injury because the radiator fan may start to run by itself.

Even with the ignition turned off the radiator fan can start to run caused by the heat inside the engine compartment.

- Remove the bolt - 1 - from the left front coolant pipes.

Ignore items - 1 , 3 -.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - from the left front coolant pipes.

Disregard item - 1 -.

- Turn the tensioning element clockwise - arrow - to release the tension on the ribbed belt and lock it with the (T10060 A).

- Remove the ribbed belt from the generator.

- Remove the bolts - arrows -.

- Push the generator slightly to the front.

- Disconnect the electrical connector - 2 -.

- Clamp off the coolant hoses using the clamps (3094).

- Place the (VAS 6208) under the engine.

- Loosen the clamps - 1 and 3 - and remove the coolant hoses from the generator- 4 -.

- Move the generator - 1 - slightly forward and remove the cap covering the B+ wire.

- Remove the generator to the right and upward.

If generator is stuck in its bracket, screw in mounting bolts again except 2 rotations.

Carefully strike on bolt heads using flat side of hammer - doing this loosens sleeves of generator mount.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Replace O-ring

Secure all hose connections using standard hose clamps. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

Because the clamping force of a tight bushing is too low despite correct torque, bushings must be loosened.

- Slightly drive back sleeves for retaining bolts in order for easier installation of generator.

- Install the ribbed belt.

- Make sure the ribbed belt is on securely and is routed correctly.

- Connect battery. Refer to => [ Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Check coolant level.

- Start engine and check belt routing.
