Lateral Accelerometer: Service and Repair
ESP Sensor Unit
• Transverse Acceleration Sensor (G200) , Rotation Rate Sensor (G202) and Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (G251) are installed in one housing beneath the center console.
• When exchanging the ESP-sensor unit (G419) , a basic (default) setting of the transverse acceleration sensor, rotation rate sensor, and longitudinal acceleration sensor must be performed.
Sharp shaking motions can destroy the transverse acceleration sensor, rotation rate sensor, and longitudinal acceleration sensor.
Removing
- Remove center console.
- Remove the airbag control module.
Follow all safety precautions when working with the airbag.
- Disconnect connector - 1 - from ESP sensor unit.
- Remove the two nuts - arrows -.
- Remove ESP sensor unit.
Installing
• Never force ESP sensor unit into position using nuts.
- Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
When installing ESP sensor unit make sure it is correctly seated in its bracket and is free of stress.
- Tighten the nuts to 8 Nm.
- Install the airbag control module.
Follow all safety precautions when working with the airbag.
- Install the center console.
- Perform basic setting for transverse acceleration sensor, rotation rate sensor, and longitudinal acceleration sensor.
Connect Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
If the ESP sensor unit is being replaced, select Guided Functions. Refer to => [ Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System Connecting and Selection Functions ] Testing and Inspection.
