Removing
The passenger occupant detection system service kit is precalibrated and must not be disconnected. The service kit consists of:
• Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706)
• Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor (G452)
• Passive Occupant Detection System Mat
• Seat cushion
• Wiring harness
Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information ] Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information.
- Move passenger seat all the way up.
- Remove passenger seat. Refer to => [ Passenger Seat Assembly Overview ] Passenger Seat Assembly Overview
- Remove seat pan cover and padding:
• Manual front seat, refer to => [ Manual Front Seats ] Manual Front Seats
• Power front seat (memory seat, power seat, and comfort seat), refer to => [ Power Memory Front Seats ] Power Memory Front Seats.
- Slide Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor (G452) - 1 - sideways from clip - 2 -.
- Remove screws - 4 - and - 5 -.
Connectors on Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) - 6 - and Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor (G452) - 4 - must not be disconnected.
- Create photos or sketches of wire securing and routing.
- Loosen seat wiring harness retainers and connectors so that this can be removed together with Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) - 6 - and Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor (G452) - 4 - without disconnecting or loosening connectors on Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) and Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor (G452).
- Fold seat cushion - 2 - upward.
- Disengage seat occupied recognition mat - 1 - at seat frame - arrow A - and - arrow B -.
• Connector between seat occupied recognition mat and seat cushion - arrow C - must not be disconnected.
- Carefully pull seat occupied recognition mat - 1 - with seat cushion - 2 - upward while guiding Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor (G452) and Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) through seat pan without disconnecting connectors.
- Remove the complete service kit.
The pressure hose and the Seat Occupied Recognition Mat - 1 - must not be kinked under any circumstances during repairs.
Installation
Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information ] Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information.
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the battery is connected.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
- Route and secure wiring according to photos or sketches that were made.
- If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to vehicle diagnostic tester.
