Driver and Passenger Front Airbag Crash Sensor G283 and G284
Driver and Passenger Front Airbag Crash Sensor G283 and G284
Removing
Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information ] Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information.
There is a risk of getting injured by an automatic engine start for vehicles with the start/stop system.
• For vehicles with an activated start/stop system (recognized by a signal in the instrument cluster), the engine can be started automatically if need be.
• Therefore make sure that the start/stop system is deactivated when working on the vehicle (turn off the ignition, turn on the ignition when necessary).
- Turn on the ignition.
- Turn on the ignition and disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
- Open the hood.
Before handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Release connector - 3 - by pressing fitting on connection in direction of crash sensor - 2 -.
- Remove connector - 3 - from crash sensor - 2 -.
- Remove the bolts - 1 -.
- Remove front airbag crash sensor - 2 -.
Installation
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information ] Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and General Information.
• Before handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Install crash sensor - 2 - in reverse order of removal.
- When connecting connector - 3 -, ensure this engages correctly with crash sensor - 2 -.
• Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.
• Make sure the wires do not get caught.
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the battery is connected.
- Switch on ignition.
- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.
- If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.
