Condition
MIL on, DTC(s) P310E (P310E00), and/or P040B (P040B00) stored in ECM fault memory.
Technical Background
Quality of Auxiliary EGR Cooler modules manufactured within a certain timeframe may be inadequate. Vacuum actuator diaphragm may have leaks.
Production Solution
New engine design for model year 2013.
Service
A faulty Auxiliary EGR Cooler will trigger a P310E fault.
Faulty operation of the Auxiliary EGR Cooler can also trigger the P040B temperature fault. There is no fault with the temperature sensor.
Replace the Auxiliary EGR Cooler (059 131 512 Q) to address this issue.
See Repair Manual Group 26 in ElsaWeb.
Note:
Verify proper operation of the replacement part vacuum diaphragm with a hand vacuum pump prior to part installation. Unless sensor replacement fails to resolve customer concern, there is no need to call the Technical Assistance Center (TAC).
