Auxiliary Fuel Pump Delivery Quantity, Checking, through May 2010
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnosis Tester
• Hose with 8 mm inner diameter, fuel resistant
• Measuring container, fuel-resistant
Procedure
• The transfer fuel pump (G6) delivery rate is OK. Observe test conditions. Refer to => [ Test Conditions ] Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

- Carefully pull the engine cover off the 4 bolts one after the other - arrows -.
Very hot fuel can burn skin.
• In extreme cases, the fuel lines and the fuel itself in vehicles with a common rail engine can be as hot as 100 °C (212 °F) after the engine has been turned off. Let the fuel cool down before opening any line connections otherwise there is a danger of scalding.
• Wear protective gloves.
• Wear safety glasses.
There is a risk of injury because the fuel is under pressure.
• To reduce pressure in the fuel system, lay a clean cloth around the connector and carefully loosen connector.
- Disconnect the fuel supply hose - 1 -.
• Ignore - 2 -.
- Connect the fuel resistant hose to the fuel supply line - arrow - and hold it inside a fuel resistant container.
- Connect the vehicle diagnosis tester and turn on the ignition.
There are various procedures, depending on the engine version.
Version 1
- Press the Start button and press the Stop button after 15 seconds.
Version 2
- Activate the button - 1 -, press it and after 15 seconds, press the arrow key - 2 -.
Both Versions
- Check the amount of fuel in the measuring container.
• Specified value: About 1 liter at minimum 12.5 V battery voltage.
If minimum delivery quantity is not obtained, the following malfunctions may be present:
• Fuel lines pinched.
• Fuel filter clogged.
• Fuel pump faulty.
Assemble in reverse order of disassembling. Note the following:
• Secure all hose connections with the hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory. Refer to the Parts Catalog.
