Climatronic Control Module
Climatronic Control Module
• Pressing and holding the buttons on the Climatronic control module or Rear A/C Display Control Head (E265) for an extended period of time (for example, setting an object down on them) can cause an entry in the DTC memory due to stuck buttons. If necessary, check the function of the buttons and erase the DTC memory if no malfunction is found.
• The Climatronic control module is available in different versions, Comfort and Basic, and there are differences of these versions again. Assign the correct version and variant when replacing the Climatronic control module. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.
• Comfort version of Climatronic control module with the component safeguard function may no longer be exchanged in the familiar way, as soon as a Climatronic control module Comfort version has been adapted once in a vehicle, the component safeguard takes effect. Verify using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding".
• If a Comfort version of the Climatronic control module with active component protection (anti-theft system) is installed in a different vehicle, only the functions necessary for vehicle safety can still be selected (Defrost, heated rear window, etc.), Comfort functions (direction of air flow, temperature pre-selector, etc.) can no longer be selected. Check using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding".
• Component protection can only be canceled by entering specific vehicle data using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function.
• At this time, the Climatronic control module Basic version is not equipped with the component safeguard function (introduction not yet finalized).
• The selected functions are displayed by illuminated LEDs in the various buttons of the Climatronic control module.
• Display fields and control buttons on the Climatronic control module are illuminated by Light Emitting Diodes (these LEDs cannot be replaced).
• The Climatronic control module is not always connected to terminal 15, therefore after voltage supply interruption (via connector - D -) wait still at least 30 seconds to protect the electronics until the remaining connections are disconnected.
• If a new Climatronic control module was installed and the basic setting was not performed, A/C regulation is limited and a malfunction about that is stored in the DTC memory. Check using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding".
• Perform the following work (basic setting, check the DTC memory, checking the coding and adaptation) after replacing the Climatronic control module using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding".
• Starting in November 2007 the Comfort has an updated Fresh Air Blower Control Module (J126) (an updated Climatronic control module for the Comfort A/C system and an updated Fresh Air Blower (V2) ) and an updated air intake housing. Refer to => [ Fresh Air Blower Control Module (J126) ] Fresh Air Blower Control Module (J126) and the Electronic Parts Catalog.
• The Refrigerant Temperature Sensor (G454) was discontinued as of November 2007 as a running change. On vehicles with the Comfort A/C system, make sure the Climatronic control module for the Comfort A/C system is installed. Vehicles with a 6 cylinder TDI engine or an 8 cylinder engine but without a refrigerant temperature sensor may only have the Comfort front control and display unit installed (part number 4L0 820 043, beginning with index letter K). Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog and Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding".
• If the vehicle has the Basis A/C system without a refrigerant temperature sensor, and the sensor is being displayed as a fault, then perform an adaptation to the Basis front A/C control head. It is not necessary to perform this on the Comfort A/C system because it has different versions of the front A/C control head. On vehicles wit the Basis A/C system, Guided Fault Finding displays the fault missing refrigerant temperature sensor and the evaluating of the refrigerant temperature sensor switches off (by entering "adaptation") using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding".
• From MY 10, the Comfort Climatronic control module with part number 4L0 820 043 from index AA will be installed (the Basis A/C system is being discontinued). Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog. On vehicles with these front A/C control heads, the screen in the MMI display will not switch to A/C system when the buttons and knobs on the front A/C control head are pressed. The selected A/C system functions are shown in the running display. Certain A/C system functions in these vehicles will be selected and activated with the rotary push buttons on the MMI unit. Refer to the Owner's Manual and Infotainment/MMI Owner's Manual. The A/C button is available on these front A/C control heads instead of the Setup button. Refer to the Owner's Manual.
Always perform the following work after replacing the Climatronic control module:
- Check coding.
- Perform the basic setting.
- Check adaptation.
- Check DTC memory of the Climatronic control module (and of Rear A/C Display Control Head) using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
