Voice Control System, Information Electronics Control Module 1 (J794), From 1 June 2009

The voice control system is a component of the information electronics control module 1 (MMI) located at the top of the center console. It cannot be replaced alone.

If it is faulty, then the information electronics control module 1 must be replaced.

- Switch off all electrical consumers.

- Remove the key.

- If control module is replaced, select "Replacement" function for appropriate control module in "Guided Fault-Finding" routine.

Use the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051) to do so.

Removing

- Remove the information electronics control module 1. Refer to => [ Information Electronics Control Module 1 ] Information Electronics Control Module 1 (J794).

Installing

- Install the information electronics control module 1. Refer to => [ Information Electronics Control Module 1 ] Information Electronics Control Module 1 (J794).

Perform the following function test:

- Switch on the radio.

- Briefly depress PTT button on multifunction steering wheel.

A Ping tone sounds, the speech input system is active.

- Say the command "Help"

Since the radio is active, the speech dialog system responds with "Commands for the radio are...".

Depending on the equipment, other functions can be selected:

- If a telephone is installed, say "telephone".

The speech dialog system switches to the telephone mode.

- Press and hold the PPT button for approximately 1 second.

The speech dialog system responds with "Cancel" and is deactivated.
