Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair






Brake Lamp Switch

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Release tool (T40168 A)

The brake lamp switch (F) can be used again after being removed.

The brake lamp switch programs itself. It is not necessary to calibrate it after installation.

Removing

- Move the seat all the way back as far as it will go.

- Switch the ignition off.

- Remove the storage compartment under the instrument panel on the driver side.

- Remove the footwell vent.

- Disconnect the connector from the brake lamp switch.

- Push the plunger on the brake lamp switch - B - all the way in.






- Turn the colored piece on the brake lamp switch, with the plunger still pushed in, all the way to the left - arrow A - to release the sensor.

The plunger must remain pushed in while releasing the brake lamp switch.

- Release the brake lamp switch plunger after the switch has been released.

- Insert the (T40168 A) between the brake lamp switch plunger and the brake pedal.

The cone on the tool must face in the direction of the driver seat. The opening on the tool must align with the projection on the brake lamp switch.

- Press the (T40168 A) against the brake lamp switch. The three tabs on the brake lamp switch unlock at the same time.

- Remove the brake lamp switch from the mount - C -.






Installing

The plunger adjusts itself automatically while the brake lamp switch is being installed.

The brake pedal must remain in end position during installation and must not be moved.

The brake pedal must be connected with the brake booster.

The brake pedal is in the resting position. Do not press the brake pedal.

- Install the brake lamp switch into the mount - C - on the brake pedal and press on it - arrow A - lightly.






All three tabs on the brake lamp switch must audibly engage.

Do not turn the brake lamp switch once it is inside the mount on the brake pedal.

The plunger adjusts itself automatically while the brake lamp switch is being installed.

- Turn the color piece on the brake lamp switch all the way to the right - arrow B - to the lock the brake lamp switch.






- Connect the connector.

- Install the footwell vent.

- Install the storage compartment under the instrument panel on the driver side.

Make sure the brake lamp switch is working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
