Steering Angle Sensor: Service and Repair
Steering Angle Sensor
• The steering column electronic systems control module (J527) holds the airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring (F138) and the steering angle sensor (G85).
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 505 x)
Removing
• The steering wheel must be in its center position when removing and installing the airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring (the vehicle wheels are in the straight ahead position).
- Lower the steering wheel as far as possible.
- Remove the driver airbag.
- Remove steering wheel.
- Remove the steering column trim.
- Remove the airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring - 2 - from the switch module - 3 -.
Installing
- Attach the airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring - 2 - to the switch module - 3 -.
- Install the steering column trim.
- Installing steering wheel.
- Install the driver airbag.
- Then the steering angle zero adjustment must be performed.
- Turn off the ignition and connect the (VAS 505 x) to the diagnostic connection.
• Switch on ignition
• DTC memory interrogated, errors shown corrected and DTC memory erased.
- Start the program in Guided Functions.
