Homelink(R) - Can't Program Garage Door Opener

When programming a garage door opener to the Homelink system, a MMI screen display will pop up with a message stating the system is currently not available.

Technical Background

During vehicle production the comfort control module, J393, was either adapted with an incorrect country code, or adapted with the correct country code, but without the Homelink button assembly connected.

Production Solution

Correct adapting of the comfort control module, J393.

Service

Follow the steps below to correctly adapt the comfort control module, J393.





1. In Guided Fault Finding select: Function/Component Selection >> Body >> Body >> 01 OBD >> 46 Comfort System Central Control Unit J393 >> 46 Comfort System Central Control Module, functions >> Adaptation.





2. Select option 2 to enter adaptation channel 66.





3. Select option 6 to adapt channel 66.

4. a. If the GFF screen does not display North America (NAR) with MMI support, select Done and continue with adaptation procedure by following steps 5 thru 9.





Note:
Figure 5 illustrates a vehicle adapted to North America without MMI support. Other countries with or without MMI support may be displayed in the vehicle that one is working on.





b. If the GFF screen displays North America (NAR) with MMI support, the vehicle will need to be adapted to North America (NAR) without MMI support, and then adapted back to North America (NAR) with MMI support.

Select Done and continue with adaptation procedure by following steps 10-22.





5. Select Yes to change the country selection.





6. Select Yes to activate the MMI support.





7. Select option 6 (North America with MMI support) to adapt channel 66.





8. Select Done to complete the adaptation procedure.

9. Once completed, back out of the 46 module, cycle the key and then follow the Homelink programming process in the MMI.

Follow steps 10 through 22 if, in step 4B the GFF screen displays North America (NAR) with MMI support.





10. Select Yes to change the country selection.





11. Select No to not activate the MMI support.





12. Select option 6 (North America without MMI support) to adapt channel 66 to.





13. Select Done to complete the adaptation procedure.





14. Select Yes to perform the adaptation once again to the correct value.





15. Select option 2 to enter adaptation channel 66.





16. Select option 6 to adapt channel 66.

17. Select Done to continue with adaptation procedure.

Figure 18 illustrates North America without MMI support.





18. Select Yes to change the country selection.





19. Select Yes to activate the MMI support.





20. Select option 6 (North America with MMI support) to adapt channel 66.





21. Select Done to complete the adaptation procedure.

22. Once completed, back out of the 46 module, cycle the key and then follow the Homelink programming process in the MMI.
