A/C Compressor Input Shaft, Loosening and Tightening
• If the drive plate overload protection triggers, check the A/C compressor for ease of motion before replacing the drive unit. If the A/C compressor creates friction, replace it completely.
Loosening
There is a risk of scalding from hot steam and coolant.
• The coolant system is under pressure when the engine is warm.
• To reduce the pressure, cover the coolant reservoir cap with several cloths and then open it carefully.
- Open the coolant reservoir cap - arrow -.
- Turn the front wheels so that they are straight.
- Remove the engine mount.
- Remove the bolt - arrows -.
- Remove the guide tube - 1 - for the oil dipstick from the upper part of the oil pan.
- Remove the bolts - 2 - and remove the left engine support.
• For the sake of clarity, this figure shows the engine support with the coolant pipe removed. However, the coolant pipe remains installed.
• Depending on the version of the coolant pipe, it may be necessary when removing the engine support to loosen the coolant pipe on the engine and press it slightly to the side.
• The engine support bolt tightening specifications.
- Hold the A/C compressor input shaft - A - with a wrench and turn the A/C compressor drive unit - B - in the - direction of the arrow C -.
• Do not turn the driveshaft - A -.
• Input shaft can be slid into drive wheel through the boot - E - after loosening the threaded connection.
Tighten
- Hold the A/C compressor input shaft - A - with a wrench and turn the A/C compressor drive unit - B - in the - direction of the arrow D -.
- After tightening the A/C compressor input shaft, check the position of the grommet - E -.
- Install the engine support.
