Subframe, Securing, FWD
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench 5-50 Nm (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench 40-200 Nm (V.A.G 1332)
• Engine-/Gearbox Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)
• Locating Pins (T40242)
• For certain assemblies on the vehicle, subframe or complete rear axle must be removed. The original position of the subframe to the body can be maintained with assistance of the (T40242). The (T40242) must always be installed just before lowering the subframe or the complete rear axle. A road test must be performed after completing repairs. If the steering wheel is crooked, the vehicle must be aligned. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
Procedure
- Remove the rear section of the exhaust system.
- Place the (V.A.G 1383 A) under the subframe.
- Support the back of the subframe - 1 - with a piece of wood - 2 -.
- Support the front of the subframe - 4 - with a piece of wood - 3 -.
- Secure the subframe to the (V.A.G 1383 A) using the (T10038) as illustrated.
- Remove the bolts - arrows -.
- Pry the stop plate - 1 - off the bonded rubber bushing alternating from side to side.
- Tighten the (T40242) to 20 Nm.
• Position of subframe is now secured.
Remove the (T40242) in reverse order of installation.

- Install the rear section of the exhaust system.
