Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)
• Bracket for Engine (10 - 222 A /1)
• Engine-/Gearbox Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)
• Transmission Support (3282)
• Shackle (10 - 222 A /12)
Procedure
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
• Transmission installation tightening specifications.
• Replace bolts that are tightened to the specification.
• Replace self-locking nuts and bolts and sealing rings and seals.
• Replace the clamps and the selector lever securing plate.
• The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
• Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory, refer to the Parts Catalog.
• To secure the charge air hoses on their connections, spray the clamps used previously with rust remover before installing.
• When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.
- Check needle bearing in engine driveshaft.
- Clean input shaft splines and hub and remove corrosion.
- Apply the clutch disc shaft spline grease very lightly to the splines; clutch disc shaft spline grease, refer to the Parts Catalog. Remove any excess grease.
Vehicles with 4-Cylinder 2.0L Engine
- Check if the alignment sleeves - A - for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.
Vehicles with 6-Cylinder 3.2L Engine
- Check if the alignment sleeves - A - for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.
All Vehicles
- When installing a new transmission, check to see if the old drive flanges must be changed to fit the new transmission, refer to the Parts Catalog
- Carefully raise the transmission with the (V.A.G 1383 A) and bring it into the installation position using the (3282).
- Insert transmission without pinching any lines.
- Attach the transmission to the engine.
- Install subframe mount and follow installation sequence => [ Transmission Side Subframe Mount Tightening Sequence ] Description and Operation.
Remove (10 - 222 A) only when all subframe mounting bolts are tightened to the specified torque and the subframe is installed.
- Attach the bracket to the engine and bevel box, tightening specification and sequence. Vehicles with 2.0L TFSI engine => [ Bevel Box Bracket for Vehicles with 4-Cylinder, 2.0L TFSI - Tightening Specification and Sequence ] 02EA Transmission, vehicles with 6 cylinder 3.2L engine => [ Bevel Box Bracket for Vehicles with 6-Cylinder 3.2L Engine - Tightening Specification and Sequence ] 02EA Transmission.
- Install selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Lever Cable.
Risk of damaging sealing ring - arrow - in driveshaft flange.
• Press engine/transmission assembly toward bulkhead while carefully guiding bevel box pins into driveshaft flange.
- Slide the driveshaft horizontally onto the guide pins.
- Install the subframe.
- Install pendulum supports at transmission with new bolts - 2 - and - 3 -.
• During removal, pay attention to the markings on the driveshaft and flange. These must be aligned with each other - arrows -.
- Secure the driveshaft with flexible disc on the bevel box flange.
- Install the exhaust system free of tension.
- Install the drive axle.
- Install the bracket - A - (bolts - 1 - and - 2 -), where applicable.
• Bracket - A - is secured at front of engine oil pan.
- Secure bracket - A - with nut - 1 - on front transmission cover.
- Adjust subframe mount.
- Remove the (10 - 222 A) from the engine.
- Install left front level control system sensors (G78).
- Check the selector lever cable adjustment and adjust if necessary. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Check and Adjust if Necessary ] Adjustments.
- Install battery carrier and battery.
- Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Fluid, Checking and Filling.
- Check coolant level.
