Steering Angle Sensor: Service and Repair






Steering Angle Sensor (G85)

The coil ring with slip ring and the housing of the steering angle sensor is attached to the steering column electronic systems control module (J527).

Removing

- Remove airbag unit and steering wheel.

- Set the wheels to the straight ahead position.

The coil ring with slip ring must not be turned when they have been removed.

- Remove the driver side storage tray.

- Remove the steering column switch module.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, with special attention to the following:

- Install airbag unit and steering wheel.

- Initiate the calibration of the steering angle sensor.

- Perform the ESP driving and system tests.

- Brake system (Repair Group 01; 45)

- 01- On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems

- 03- Brake electronics ABS/ESP Mark 60

- J104- ABS/ASR/ESP Control Module, Functions

- G-85 - Steering Angle Sensor calibration => vehicle diagnostic, test and information system (VAS 5051 B or VAS 5052)

- Connect the vehicle diagnosis, testing and information system (VAS 5051 B) or (VAS 5052) and select a function.
