Passive Occupant Detection System
Passive Occupant Detection System
• Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components and the seat occupied recognition system.
• Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
The passenger occupant detection system service kit is precalibrated and must not be disconnected. The service kit consists of:
• Passive Occupant Detection System Control Module -J706
• Passive Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor -G452
• Passive Occupant Detection System Mat
• Seat cushion
• Wiring harness between the passive occupant detection system control module -J706 and passive occupant detection system pressure sensor -G452.
Removing
- Move the seat height adjustment to the center position.
- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition off.
- Remove passenger seat:
• Manual seat, refer to => [ Front Manual Seat ] Front Manual Seat
• Power seat, refer to => [ Power Seat ] Power Seat
- Secure the seat on the (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Front Seat, Installing on VAS 6136 ] Front Seat, Installing on VAS 6136.
- Remove backrest:
• Manual seat, refer to => [ Backrest ] Backrest
• Power seat, refer to => [ Power Seat ] Power Seat
- Remove cover with upholstery from seat pan. Refer to => [ Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery ] Seat Pan Cover and Upholstery.
- Using a narrow screwdriver, carefully press the Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor (G452) - 4 - off the bracket - arrow -.
- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 3 - on the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) - 2 -.
- Free up the clip on the electrical wiring harness - 7 -.
- Remove the electrical connectors - 5 - and - 6 - from the brackets; while doing this, press the securing catch and pull the electrical connectors out of the bracket.
- Unlatch the clips - arrows - and press the clip - 1 - for the passenger occupant detection system mat out of the seat pan.
- Carefully unlatch the front clips - 3 - and - 5 - on the seat pan using the (80 - 200).
- Remove the seat pan cover and cushion - 2 -; first guide the Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor (G452) together with the wiring harness through the opening in the seat pan - 4 -. Then the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706) must be guided out through the opening.
Do not bend the seat occupied recognition pressure hose and mat.
- Remove the seat pan cover with upholstery with the seat occupied recognition mat - 1 -, the Seat Occupied Recognition Pressure Sensor (G452) and the Seat Occupied Recognition Control Module (J706).
- Separate the cover from the seat pan upholstery. Refer to => [ Cover, Separating From Seat Pan Upholstery ] Cover, Separating From Seat Pan Upholstery.
Installation
- Clean the threaded bolt holes for self-locking nuts, for example using a thread tap.
- Replace all self-locking bolts.
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:
• Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components and the seat occupied recognition system.
• Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
• Do not bend the seat occupied recognition pressure hose and mat.
• Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition switched on.
When installing a new service kit and after each repair on the front passenger seat where the seat and/or the backrest cover is disengaged, a basic setting procedure must be performed on the seat occupied recognition control module. Refer to => [ Passive Occupant Detection Sensor Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.
- To complete, select the "Airbag" function in "Guided Fault Finding".
