Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Trim Removal Wedge (3409)
Removing
• Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components.
• Follow the disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal.
- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition off.
- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to => [ Rear Bench Seat ] Rear Bench Seat.
- Remove 1/3 rear seat backrest. Refer to => [ Left 1/3 and Right 2/3 Backrest without Center Armrest Component Overview ] Left 1/3 and Right 2/3 Backrest Without Center Armrest Component Overview.
- Remove 2/3 rear seat backrest. Refer to => [ Left 1/3 or Right 2/3 Backrest ] Left 1/3 or Right 2/3 Backrest.
- Unclip cover - 1 - with Trim Removal Wedge (3409).
Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 5 - on rear side airbag - 4 -.
- Remove side airbag slightly from body.
- Press securing flap - 2 - in - direction of arrow - and disconnect electrical connector - 3 - on side airbag.
- Remove rear side airbag.
Installation
• Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components.
• Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:
- Slide foam piece - 4 - to side.
- Press clip - arrow - and slide belt guide - 2 - back out of retainer.
• Bolts - 1 - must not be rotated. If they are turned, belt guide must be replaced.
- Replace metal nut - 3 -.
- Slide in belt guide until it engages with a click.
- Install the rear bench seat. Refer to => [ Rear Bench Seat ] Rear Bench Seat.
- Install 1/3 rear seat backrest. Refer to => [ Left 1/3 and Right 2/3 Backrest without Center Armrest Component Overview ] Left 1/3 and Right 2/3 Backrest Without Center Armrest Component Overview.
- Install 2/3 rear seat backrest. Refer to => [ Left 1/3 or Right 2/3 Backrest ] Left 1/3 or Right 2/3 Backrest.
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition switched on.
• If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again.
