Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel with Multi-Function and Tiptronic


Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components.

Follow the disposal regulations for pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Set the airbag down so the padding faces upward.

Installing an airbag unit on the steering column switch module is prohibited if Steering Column Electronic Systems Control Module is faulty.





1 Return Spring with Slip Ring and Contact Unit

2 Steering Wheel

3 Right Tiptronic

4 Contact Unit/Electronic Module Connector Wire

5 Contact Unit Connector

6 Ignition Pill Connector

7 Airbag Unit

Removing

- Pull the steering wheel as far out as possible and up.

- Turn steering wheel - 2 - to center position (wheels point straight ahead).

- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on.

- Turn steering wheel - 2 - out of center position about 80° right.

- Remove bolt - 11 -.

- Turn steering wheel - 2 - about 160° left.

- Remove bolt - 11 -.

- Turn steering wheel - 2 - to center position (wheels point straight ahead).

- Raise airbag unit - 7 - from steering wheel.

- Release ignition pill connector (airbag unit connector) - 6 -.

- Remove ignition pill connector - 6 -.

- Disconnect multi-function wire connector - 8 - on airbag unit.

- Remove airbag unit - 7 -.

Installation

Make sure the detonator connector - 6 - latches in completely (audibly).

Ensure wires are not pinched.

- Turn steering wheel - 2 - to center position (steering wheel spokes must be horizontal).

- Place airbag unit - 7 - on lower curve of steering wheel - 2 -.

- Connect ignition pill connector - 6 - to airbag unit - 7 -. Wire must face upward.

- Lock ignition pill connector - 6 -. Connector and connector lock must engage completely (audibly).

- Connect multi-function wire connector - 8 - to airbag unit coupling.

- Route ignition pill connector wire in a loop to the left.

No wires may contact gas generator.

Ignition pill connector wire must not be pinched.

- Position airbag unit - 7 - in steering wheel.

Hold airbag unit in position while bolting.

- Turn steering wheel - 2 - out of center position about 80° right.

- Install bolt - 11 - approximately 2 turns.

- Turn steering wheel - 2 - about 160° left.

- Install bolt - 11 - approximately 2 turns.

- Tighten bolt - 11 - to the specification.


Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition switched on.

If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again.
