4-Spoke Steering Wheel

1 Return Spring with Slip Ring and Contact Unit

2 Steering Wheel

• Removal and installation is the same for all versions of the 4-spoke steering wheel.

Removing

- Remove airbag unit - 7 -:

• Steering wheel without multi-function, without Tiptronic. Refer to => [ Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel ] Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel

• Steering wheel with multi-function and with multi-function with Tiptronic. Refer to => [ Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel with Multi-Function and Tiptronic ] Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel With Multi-Function and Tiptronic

- Release contact unit connector - 5 -.

- Remove contact unit connector - 5 - from contact unit on return spring with slip ring - 1 -.

- Bring steering wheel to center position (wheels straight).

- Remove hex socket heat bolt - 9 -.

- If the steering wheel that will be removed should be installed, then mark position of steering wheel to steering column.

- Remove steering wheel - 2 -.

Installation

When installing steering wheel, wheels must be in straight-ahead position.

- Position steering wheel - 2 -:

• When installing the steering wheel: make sure the markings on the steering column and the steering wheel line up.

• When installing a new steering wheel (without a marking): the steering wheel must be mounted in its center position (steering wheel spokes must be horizontal and wheels in straight-ahead position).

- Install new hex socket head bolt - 9 - and tighten to the specification.

• Ensure wires in steering wheel are routed correctly.

- Connect contact unit connector - 5 - to contact unit on return spring with slip ring - 1 -.

- Lock contact unit connector - 5 -.

- Install the airbag - 7 -: steering wheel without multifunction module and without tiptronic, refer to => [ Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel ] Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel, steering wheel with a multifunction module and with tiptronic, refer to => [ Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel with Multi-Function and Tiptronic ] Driver Side Airbag Unit, 4-Spoke Steering Wheel With Multi-Function and Tiptronic.

- Perform a road test.

- If steering wheel is crooked, remove again and place on steering column splines.

50 Nm

• Replace after each disassembly
