3-Spoke Steering Wheel


Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components.





1 Return Spring with Slip Ring and Contact Unit

2 Ignition Pill Connector

3 Contact Unit Connector

4 Horn Wire

5 Right Tiptronic

6 Steering Wheel

Removal and installation is the same for all versions of the 3-spoke steering wheel.

Removing

- Remove airbag unit - 7 -. Refer to => [ Driver Side Airbag Unit, 3-Spoke Steering Wheel ] Driver Side Airbag Unit, 3-Spoke Steering Wheel.

- Bring steering wheel to center position (wheels straight).

- Remove hex socket heat bolt - 8 -.

- If the steering wheel that will be removed should be installed, then mark position of steering wheel to steering column.

Contact unit connector cannot be released with steering wheel installed.

- Carefully remove steering wheel - 6 - from steering column.

- Pull opening in steering wheel over connector connected to contact unit.

- Release contact unit connector - 3 - and remove it from contact unit on return spring with slip ring - 1 -.

- Remove steering wheel - 6 -.

Installation

When installing steering wheel, wheels must be in straight-ahead position.

- Position steering wheel - 6 -:

When installing the steering wheel: make sure the markings on the steering column and the steering wheel line up.

When installing a new steering wheel (without a marking): the steering wheel must be mounted in its center position (steering wheel spokes must be horizontal and wheels in straight-ahead position).

- Install new hex socket head bolt - 8 - and tighten to the specification.

- Connect contact unit connector - 3 - to contact unit on return spring with slip ring - 1 -.

- Lock contact unit connector - 3 -.

- Install airbag unit - 7 -. Refer to => [ Driver Side Airbag Unit, 3-Spoke Steering Wheel ] Driver Side Airbag Unit, 3-Spoke Steering Wheel.

- Perform a road test.

- If steering wheel is crooked, remove again and place on steering column splines.

7 Airbag Unit

8 Bolt

50 Nm

Replace after each disassembly

9 Screws

7 Nm

10 Left Tiptronic

Contact Unit Connector, Releasing and Disconnecting





- Carefully remove steering wheel - 2 - from steering column.

- Release contact unit connector - 1 - and remove in - direction of arrow -.

- Remove steering wheel - 2 -.
