Selector Mechanism

Removing

- Move the selector lever into "P".

- Turn off the ignition.

- Remove the selector lever handle:

• Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle with Side Locking Button ] Selector Lever Handle with Side Locking Button

• Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle with Front Locking Button ] Selector Lever Handle with Front Locking Button

- Remove the center console trim. Refer to "Center Console".

- Remove the ashtray. Refer to "Center Console".

- Disconnect the connector - A -.






• Ignore - 1, B and C -.

- Remove the air filter housing.

- Remove the locking plate - C -.






- Push the lock washer - A - upward and remove it.

- Remove the selector lever cable from the transmission selector lever - arrow - pull it out of the bracket - D -.

• The selector lever cable must not be bent or kinked.

• Ignore - 1 and B -.

- Remove the noise insulation - 1 -. Refer to "Underbody Trim Panels and Heat Shields".






- Remove the exhaust system.

- Remove the driveshaft.

- Remove the heat shield - arrows -.






• A second technician must be under the vehicle to remove the selector mechanism.






- Remove the nuts - arrows - (from above).

• Ignore - 1 and 2 -.

- Remove the selector mechanism downward together with the selector lever cable.

• The selector lever cable must not be bent or kinked.

• The selector mechanism can also be removed without selector lever cable by disconnecting cable from selector mechanism function unit. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Lever Cable.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

• For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Overview ] Selector Mechanism Overview.

• Replace the selector lever cable securing plate and lock washer.

• The selector lever cable must not be bent or kinked.

- Install the heat shield.

- Install the driveshaft.

- Install the exhaust system free of tension.

- Install the ashtray. Refer to "Center Console".

- Install the center console trim. Refer to "Center Console".

- Install the selector lever handle:

• Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle with Side Locking Button ] Selector Lever Handle with Side Locking Button

• Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle with Front Locking Button ] Selector Lever Handle with Front Locking Button

- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting.

- Selector mechanism and ignition key withdrawal lock, checking. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism and Ignition Key Removal Lock, Checking ] 02EA (S-Tronic) Transmission.

- Install the noise insulation. Refer to "Underbody Trim Panels and Heat Shields".
