Axle Oil, Draining, or Filling after Repairs

The axle oil in the bevel box must only be drained for a repair. Changing oil is not intended.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Protective goggles

Procedure

Move vehicle onto a 4-column lifting platform or over a work pit so that it stands absolutely horizontal.

Place selector lever in position "P", engage parking brake.

The engine is off.

- Remove the noise insulation - 1 -. Refer to "Underbody Trim Panels and Heat Shields".






- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.

Risk of injury due to hot axle oil.

Wear protective goggles.

Wear protective gloves.

- Remove the drain plug - A -.






- Let the gear oil drain.

- Tighten the drain plug - A -.

- Remove oil filler hole plug - B -.

- Fill the bevel box with axle oil. For the correct part number, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

Specified value: axle oil level up to bottom edge of oil filler hole.

Assembling

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Flange Shaft, Seals and Bracket on Bevel Box Overview ] Description and Operation.

Replace the oil filler hole drain plug.

- Install the noise insulation. Refer to "Underbody Trim Panels and Heat Shields".
