Generator
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Locking Pin (T10060A)
Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to => [ Contact Corrosion ] Contact Corrosion.
Removing
- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (ND) wire. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Remove EVAP canister up from bracket - arrow - and lay aside with lines connected.
Risk of destroying if the running direction of a used ribbed belt is reversed.
• Before removing ribbed belt, marking running direction with chalk or a felt-tip pen for reinstallation.
- Swivel ribbed belt tensioner in - direction of arrow - to tension ribbed belt.
- Secure the ribbed belt tensioner with the (T10060 A).
- Remove ribbed belt.
- Remove ribbed belt tensioner - arrows -.
- Loosen generator bolts - arrows - approximately 6 turns.
- Using a hammer, carefully hit bolt heads to loosen generator mount bushings.
- Remove bolts completely.
- Remove generator from accessories bracket.
- Tip generator with electrical wires connected to right side of vehicle.
- Disconnect electrical connector - 2 -.
- Remove electrical wire - 1 - and wire clamp - 3 - from generator.
- Remove generator upward.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Generator Overview ] Generator Overview.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
• Because the clamping force of a tight bushing is too low despite correct torque, bushings must be loosened.
- Drive retaining bolt bushings back slightly for easier generator installation.
- Route ribbed belt on belt pulleys for crankshaft, A/C compressor and generator.
- Install ribbed belt tensioner.
- Check ribbed belt for correct seating.
- Connect battery. Refer to => [ Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Start the engine and make sure the belt is running correctly.
