Affected Vehicle

Condition
Customer may report a rattle noise from rear of transmission at idle. On manual vehicles, noise may change when clutch is depressed.

Technical Background
The R8 is not equipped with a dual mass flywheel therefore the engine vibrations go directly into the gearbox. The gears which are not engaged will vibrate and cause a rattling noise. This noise will not affect performance of the vehicle.

Tip: Replacing the transmission will not change this condition.

Do not perform any repairs. Any repairs for this concern may be denied. Explain the technical background to the customer and inform them this is normal.
