Dust and Pollen Filter
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Suction nozzle with brush (VAS 6288)
• Standard vacuum cleaner
• The dust and pollen filter consists of 2 identical filter inserts. Pay attention to the correct position when installing (the filter air flow direction is marked with arrows).
• Clean the air intake area after replacing the dust and pollen filter; pay particular attention to the area under the air intake unit.
• Clean the dust and pollen filter installation shaft in the A/C unit before installing the new filter.
• There are different versions of the dust and pollen filter. Each filter version has its own air resistance. The control characteristic for activating the Fresh Air Blow (V2) is determined in the Climatronic Control Module (J255).
• The filter element with the activated charcoal insert (as an integrated odor filter) is installed on all vehicles. There is no Air Quality Sensor (G238) installed on these vehicles.
Removing
- Remove the passenger side instrument panel cover.
- Loosen the passenger side relay carrier and fuse panel base plate and lay it aside.
- Remove the subwoofer.
- Press the wiring harness to the side.
• Depending on the model of the vehicle, it may be necessary to loosen the wiring harness located in the area of the dust and pollen filter installation compartment in order to press it to the side.
- Cover the floor mat under the A/C unit dust and pollen filter shaft with paper.
- Loosen the retainer - B - and remove the dust and pollen filter cover - A - from the A/C unit.
- Remove the lower dust and pollen filter - A - from the A/C unit.
• Two identical filter elements are installed on top of each other in the A/C unit.
- Hold the dust and pollen filter installation shaft - C - in the A/C unit and remove the upper filter - B - (at the tab) downward and then out of the installation shaft.
Installing
Installation is done in reverse order, observe the following:
- Clean the dust and pollen filter installation shaft - C - in the A/C unit of leaves, dust and other objects.
- Guide the (VAS 6288) into the dust and pollen filter installation shaft - A - in the A/C unit - arrow -.
- Loosen any leaves, dirt and other contaminants in the installation shaft using the (VAS 6288).
- Connect the flexible hose to the (VAS 6288) and to a standard vacuum cleaner.
- Vacuum out the loosened leaves, dirt and other contaminants with the vacuum cleaner.
- Insert the upper dust and pollen filter - B - in the installation shaft - C - in the A/C unit.
• The arrow - D - on the dust and pollen filter must point to the evaporator.
- Slide the dust and pollen filter up and hold it in the upper position with a straight edge, if necessary.
- Insert the lower dust and pollen filter - A - in the installation shaft - C - in the A/C unit.
• The arrow - D - on the dust and pollen filter must point to the evaporator.
- Check the position of the seal - C - in the groove - D -.
- Engage the cover - A - in the mount - E -.
- Press the cover onto the A/C unit until the retaining tab - B - engages audibly.
- Install the subwoofer.
- Install the passenger footwell base plate.
- Install the passenger side instrument panel cover.
