Right Flange Shaft Seal
• Identifying and allocating the front final drive, refer to => [ Front Final Drive 0BM, 0C1 Identification ] Front Final Drive 0BM, 0C1 Identification.
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Slide Hammer - Complete Set (VW 771)
• Pulling Hook (VW 771/37)
• Thrust Piece (T10259) for 0C1 front final drive
• Thrust Piece (T10436) for 0BM final drive
• Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)
Removing
- Remove the front final drive, refer to => [ Front Final Drive ] Front Final Drive.
- Secure the (VW 771) to the flange shaft on the right side.
- Remove the flange seal that is on the right side.
- Use the (VW 771) and the (771/37) to pull the flange shaft seal off.
Installing Front Final Drive 0C1
- Apply a light layer of lubricant on the outer circumference of the shaft seal.
- Force the new shaft seal on up to the stop.
- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).
Installing Front Final Drive 0BM
- Apply a light layer of lubricant on the outer circumference of the shaft seal.
- Force the new shaft seal on up to the stop.
- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips halfway with sealing grease (G 052 128 A1).
Continuation for All
Check the dust cap for damage before installing the flange shaft. If necessary, replace the dust cap, refer to => [ Left Flange Shaft Dust Cap ] Left Flange Shaft Dust Cap.
- Place the flange shaft and protective jaws - B - in a vise.
- Remove the old ring - A - from the groove in the flange shaft using pliers.
- Install the new ring being careful not to overstretch it.
- Drive the flange shaft on using the plastic hammer.
- Install the front final drive => [ Installing ] Front Final Drive.
- Check the transmission fluid level for the front final drive, refer to => [ Axle Oil Level, Checking ] Axle Oil Level, Checking.
