V6 FSI and TFSI
Power Steering Pump
Assembly Overview
• Always replace seals.
• Do not reuse fluid you have drained.
• Only use hydraulic oil.
1 Power Steering Pump
• Fill with hydraulic oil before installation.
• Checking delivery pressure, refer to => [ Power Steering Pump Delivery Pressure, Checking ] Power Steering Pump Delivery Pressure, Checking.
2 Belt Pulley
3 Bolt
• 25 Nm
• Quantity: 3
4 Bolt
• 25 Nm
5 Bracket
6 Bolt
• 25 Nm
7 Banjo Bolt
• 35 Nm
8 Seal
• Always replace.
9 Pressurized Line
• Note installed position.
10 Intake Hose
• Note installation position on reservoir. Refer to => [ Lines and Hoses Assembly Overview ] Lines and Hoses Assembly Overview.
• Note power steering pump location.
11 Marking
• On intake hose.
• Marking on intake hose must align with marking on power steering pump.
12 Spring Clamp
• Remove and install with Spring Type Clip Pliers (VAS 5024 A).
13 Marking
• On vane pump
• Marking on intake hose must align with marking on power steering pump.
Installation Position of Intake Hose and Pressure Line at Pump
- Install intake hose - 1 - so that the marking - 2 - on it and marking - 3 - on support - 4 - align.
Removing and Installing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Hose clamps up to 25 mm diameter (3094)
• Spanner wrench (3212)
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Used Oil Collection and Extraction Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Spring type clip pliers (VAS 5024 A)
General Information
• The power steering pump is not designed to be serviced. If there are customer complaints, the cause must be determined using a pressure and leak test. If there is a malfunction, replace the pump.
• If fluid is low in reservoir, always check steering system for leaks.
• If there are leaks in the area of the line connections, the lines/connections must first be inspected for leaks, tightened as necessary and wiped dry.
• Pump is delivered without oil. Therefore, hydraulic oil must be filled before installation and turned by hand. Otherwise, noises when driving or damage to pump may occur.
Removing
- With vehicles with air suspension, place vehicle on hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.
- Only remove front noise insulation - 1 -.
- Extract hydraulic oil from reservoir using old oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782).
- Mark ribbed belt running direction.
- Remove ribbed belt.
- Remove bolts - arrows -. Counterhold belt pulley with (3212) when doing so.
- Clamp the intake hose and the return line near the longitudinal member with (3094).
- Lay cloths beneath and remove banjo bolt - 1 -.
- Open spring clip - 3 - and disconnect intake hose - 2 -.
- Remove bolts - 1 -.
- Remove bolt - 2 - and remove power steering pump - 3 -.
Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Observe the following when doing so:
• Clean oiled places in engine compartment.
• Always replace seals.
• Before installing new pump on intake side, fill hydraulic oil and screw in by hand until oil escapes on pressure side.
• Charge air system hose supports and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installation.
• Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate to the model.
- Turn the hub by hand until oil runs out of the pressure side.
- To assist attachment of pump - 1 -, drive threaded sleeve for bolt - 2 - back slightly in bracket.
- Insert pump - 3 -.
- First tighten front bolts - 1 -.
- Then tighten rear bolt - 2 -.
- Screw belt pulley onto pump.
- Secure suction hose with new hose clamp. Note location of suction hose on power steering pump when doing so.
- Install new sealing rings onto banjo bolt.
- Tighten pressure line banjo bolt.
- Clean oiled places in engine compartment.
- Install ribbed belt and check alignment of ribbed belt.
- On vehicles with air suspension, position vehicle on wheels. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.
- Top off hydraulic oil.
- Check power steering fluid level. Refer to => [ Power Steering, Checking Hydraulic Oil Level ] .
- Bleed steering system. Refer to => [ Steering System, Bleeding after Reconstructing ] .
- Check the steering system for leaks. Refer to => [ Steering System, Checking for Leaks ] Steering System, Checking For Leaks.
