Activating
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to=> [ Restraint System Components General Safety Precautions ] .
• Follow the additional safety precautions when working with the side airbag. Refer to=> [ Side Airbag Safety Precautions ] Side Airbag Safety Precautions.
- Switch the ignition on.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on.
Before handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Remove left or right 2nd row seat cushion.
• Seat beach (two-thirds bench), refer to => [ Bench Seat Cushion ] Bench Seat Cushion.
• Individual seat, refer to => [ Seat Cushion ] Seat Cushion.
• Left and right side airbags can we switched on individually.
One connection each is found at left and right below 2nd row bench seat.
- Insert side airbag connector - 1 -.
• Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.
• Make sure the wires do not get caught.
- Install the left or right 2nd row seat cushion.
• Seat beach (two-thirds bench), refer to => [ Bench Seat Cushion ] Bench Seat Cushion.
• Individual seat, refer to => [ Seat Cushion ] Seat Cushion.
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the battery is connected.
- Switch on ignition.
- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.
- Remove switched-off side airbag sticker from rear door frame.
- Remove remaining adhesive from door frame with cleaning solution.
- Run the programs for activating the rear side airbag under "Guided Functions" using the Vehicle diagnostic tester. The current, applicable adaptation program is the one that must be run.
- Fill out the registration card and forward the card to the responsible sales center or importer for registration. Remove page 3 of the registration card from the owner's manual.
- If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.
