Rear Lid Antenna Wire, From MY 10

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Wiring Harness Repair Set VAS 1978/A (VAS 1978 B)

Replacement wiring harness (4L0 971 733)

Adapter (1J0 955 875) after TAB.106.104

Adapter (1J0 955 875 R) after TAB.106.104.A

Hot Air Gun (VAS 1978/14)

Approximately 70 mm Heat Shrink Sleeve (000 979 992)

Collection Receptacle

The antenna wires from the Antenna amplifier (R24) (spoiler) to the Radio/ TV Tuner (R78) are inside the rear lid wiring harness.

Tab on Motor in rear lid control module 2 (V376) consists of wiring harness for antenna wires and rear window wiper system corrugated tube.

The wiring harness must be replaced if one antenna wire is faulty.

It is not possible to replace individual antenna wires.

Removing

To make process easier, create photos or sketches of wiring harness routing.

Especially observe the specified fasteners.

- Remove rear lid trim..

- Remove spoiler..






- Disconnect electrical connectors - 1 - on Antenna amplifier (R24) and thread wires with grommet - 2 - inward.

- Remove headliner..

- Place collection receptacle below.






Washer fluid hose may still be filled with fluid.

- Remove washer fluid hose - 1 - from rear window wiper motor.

- Unclip wiring harness - 2 - from retainers - arrows -.

- Continue unclip wiring harness - 1 - accordingly on rear lid - arrows -.






- Remove the wiring harness and grommet - 2 - from the rear lid.

- Loosen wiring harness - 1 - at attachment points - arrows - as far as tab on Motor in rear lid control module 2 (V376) - item 2 -.






- Place collection receptacle below.






Washer fluid hose may still be filled with fluid.

- Disconnect removed wiring harness - 1 - after tab on branch - arrow -.

Installing

The replacement wiring harness is routed along the existing faulty harness and is secured on roof to C-pillar parallel to existing wiring harness.

Original attachment points in rear lid are used.

- Place washer fluid hose - 1 - on connection on rear window wiper motor.






- Clip wiring bracket - arrows - in accordingly.






- Install the wiring harness - 1 - through the opening - 2 - for the spoiler.

- Install the grommet - 2 - and connect electrical connectors - 1 - on Antenna Amplifier 2 (R24).






- Continue installing wiring harness - 1 - on roof frame - arrows -.






- Route wiring strand from area - 2 - (cloth clover) parallel to existing wiring harness.

- Use cable ties if necessary.

- Route the wiring harness - 1 - further toward the D-pillar - arrows -.






The wiring harness goes to the TV tuner (R78) and radio.

Follow the safety precautions when working on the airbag.

- Remove screws - 2 - and - 3 - on side curtain airbag and route wiring harness between side curtain airbag and D-pillar along existing wiring harness.

- Use cable ties if necessary.

- Tighten the bolts - 2 - and - 3 - to 4 Nm.

- Route the wiring harness - 1 - along the existing one at the right side window - arrows -.






- Use cable ties to secure.

- Tighten both ground wires - 2 - to 9 Nm.

The first antenna wire goes to the TV tuner (R78) - brown straight connector, chamber 2.

The second antenna wire goes to the radio - white bent connector, chamber 2.

The washer fluid line on wiring harness between Digital Sound System Control Module (J525) and side wall leads to wheel housing.

- Route the antenna wires up to the TV tuner and to the radio along the existing wiring harness.

- Disconnect the brown connector - 1 - from the TV tuner - 2 -.






- Remove the antenna wire for the TV tuner from chamber 1 on the brown connector.

- Remove the locking strip - 3 - for the connectors - arrow A -.






- Open the clip - 1 - and remove the antenna wire - 2 - from the connector housing - arrow B -.

- Tie back the old antenna wire and connector housing on the wiring harness so that it cannot rattle.

- Attach the removed antenna wire into chamber 1 of the brown connector - 3 - with the new antenna wire.






- Install the locking strip all the way.

The locking strip can only be pushed in all the way when the antenna line is installed all the way into the connector housing.

- Connect the brown connector to the TV tuner - 2 -.

- Disconnect the white connector - 2 - from the radio - 1 -.






- Remove the antenna wire for the radio from chamber 1 on the white connector.

- Remove the locking strip - 1 - for the connectors - arrow A -.






- Open the clips - 2 - and remove the antenna wire - 3 - from the connector housing - arrow B -.

- Tie back the old antenna wire and connector on the wiring harness so that it cannot rattle.

- Attach the removed antenna wire into chamber 1 of the white connector - 3 - with the new antenna wire.






- Install the locking strip all the way.

The locking strip can only be pushed in all the way when the antenna line is installed all the way into the connector housing.

- Connect the white connector to the radio - 1 -.

- Remove the Digital sound system control module (J525).






- Route washer fluid line - 2 - on existing wiring harness - 1 - behind Digital sound system control module - arrow - to wheel housing.

Existing wiring harness is not covered on wheel housing. The connection to the existing washer fluid hose is made there.






- Raise existing washer fluid hose - 1 - slightly out of wiring harness and guide new hose - 2 - parallel to it.

- Place collection receptacle below.

Washer fluid hose may still be filled with fluid.

- Disconnect both washer fluid hoses at specified location.

- Connect ends of each washer fluid hose - 1 - and - 4 - with (1J0 955 875 R) - item 2 - or (1J0 955 875) - item 3 -.






- Slide heat shrink sleeve - 5 - over a hose and connect adapters.

- Slide the heat shrink sleeve over the connection and create a thick connection using the (VAS 1978/14).

- Install washer fluid hose in wiring harness.

- Perform a function test.

- Install Digital Sound System Control Module (J525).

- Install headliner.

- Install spoiler.

- Install rear lid trim.
