- Lift the vehicle.

- Remove the noise insulation - 1 - and - 2 -.

- Remove the driveshaft.

- Remove the front muffler.

- Remove the nut - 1 - from the power steering hydraulic line.

The suspension components could be damaged.

Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, the steering gear or the subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the subframe crossbrace.

- Remove the drive axle noise insulation - 1 - inside the right wheel housing.

Depending on the date of manufacture, an additional drive axle heat shield - B - may be attached.

The shape of the additional heat shield depends on the engine and on the date of manufacture.

Mark the installed position of the additional heat shield in color before removing it.

- If equipped, mark the installed position of the heat shield - B - to the heat shield - A -.

- Remove the bolts - 1, 2 and 3 - and then remove the right drive axle heat shields.

- Remove the right subframe shield under the right drive axle.

- Remove left and right drive axles from transmission flange shafts.

The airbag spiral spring could be damaged.

Only disconnect universal joint from steering gear if front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.

Do not change the steering wheel and steering gear position. Secure the steering wheel, for example using adhesive tape.

- Remove the bolt - arrow - from the universal joint.

- Press the universal joint off the steering gear and slide it all the way up.

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 2 - and the bracket for the catalytic converter.

- Remove the ATF pipe bolts from the engine - arrow A - and - arrow B -.

Place a catch tray under the transmission to catch any leaking ATF.

- Remove the clip - A - holding the Mechatronic wiring harness from the ATF pipe - B -.

- Remove the bolt - arrow -. Then pull the ATF pipe - B - and - C - off the transmission and tie it up.

- Seal any open lines and connections with a clean plug from the (VAS 6122).

There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

- To discharge static electricity, touch the transmission housing (without wearing gloves).

- Disconnect the connector on transmission by rotating screw connections counter-clockwise - arrow -.

- Remove the ball socket - 1 - on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the (80 - 200).
