Starter, 3.0L TDI

Removing

- Switch the ignition off.

- Disconnect the battery ground (GND) cable from the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Remove the front exhaust pipe.

- Remove the generator. Refer to => [ Generator, 3.0L TDI without Auxiliary Heater ] Generator, 3.0L TDI Without Auxiliary Heater.

- Remove the right engine mount.

- Remove screws - 1 - and - 2 -.






- Press the lower right coolant pipe to the side.

• Disregard item - 3 -.

- Remove the nut - 1 - and free up the ground wire on the engine support.






- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the right engine support.

• The engine support is illustrated without the heat shield.

- Disconnect the electrical connector - 3 - by sliding the retainer back and pressing the release down.






- Remove the terminal 30/B+ wire - 2 - from the starter.

- Remove the bolts - 1 - and - 4 - and the starter.

• - 1 - can be reached from above.

Installing

• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Starter Overview ] Service and Repair.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Install the engine support and the right engine mount.

- Install the lower right coolant pipe.

- Install the generator. Refer to => [ Generator, 3.0L TDI without Auxiliary Heater ] Generator, 3.0L TDI Without Auxiliary Heater.

- Install the front exhaust pipe.

- Connect battery. Required actions, refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
