Driver or Front Passenger Head Curtain Airbag with Igniter (N251)/(N252), Through 05.10
Removing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.
• Follow all regulations when disposing of pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal.
- Switch the ignition on.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition switched on.
- Remove headliner. Refer to => [ Headliner ] Headliner.
- Remove head curtain airbag bolt - 3 - on the A-pillar.
- Remove the head-level airbag from the clips - 1 - and - 2 -.
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Disconnect electrical harness connector - 1 -.
- Release the connector lock - 3 - using a small screwdriver - 1 - and disconnect the electrical connector - 2 - from the head-level airbag.
- Remove cap nuts - 2 - and - 3 -.
- Disengage the side curtain airbag retaining tab clips - 1 - from the body by pressing the locking mechanisms together - arrows - using needle nose pliers or O-ring pliers.
- Remove side curtain airbag from vehicle.
Installation
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.
• Always follow side curtain airbag installation procedure.
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:
Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Clip the side curtain airbag retaining tab clips - 1 - onto the body.
- Engage the head-level airbag - 4 - on the bolt and tighten the cap nuts - 2 - and - 3 - by hand.
- Tighten cap nuts - 2 - and - 3 -.
- Connect the electrical connector - 1 -.
- Connect the connector - 1 - on the side curtain airbag igniter - 2 -.
- Press in the plug connector - 3 - in the - direction of the arrow -. This slides the connector into the side curtain airbag as far as the stop and locks it.
• Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.
• Make sure the wires do not get caught.
• Replace the clips - 1 - and - 2 - if the removal is due to a crash.
- Secure the side curtain airbag with the clips - 1 - and - 2 -.
- Tighten head curtain airbag bolt - 3 - on the A-pillar.
- Install the headliner. Refer to => [ Headliner ] Headliner.
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.
• If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.
