Front Final Drive and Transfer Case, Filling with Transmission Oil after Repair
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)
• Protective glasses
Work sequence:
• Tightening specification, refer to => [ Center Differential Housing Assembly Overview ] .
• General repair notes, refer to => [ Repair Information ] .
• Rules for cleanliness when working on the DSG transmission. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] .
• Gear oil at about 20 °C / 108 °F (room temperature).
• Move vehicle onto a four-pillar lifting platform or over a work pit so that it stands absolutely horizontal.
- Place (V.A.G 1782) under transmission.
- Remove the plug - arrow - on the side of the transmission housing.
There is a risk of damaging the transmission.
• Do not start the engine when there is no transmission oil in the transmission.
• Place a cloth over the tunnel crossmember to prevent the transmission oil from running into the cast pockets.
- Fill the transmission with transmission oil slowly and evenly over a period of at least 5 minutes until transmission oil flows out at the lower edge of the filling opening.
• It is important to follow the filling period to make sure the various oil spaces in the transmission are filled equally.
- Perform this process every 15 seconds with 50 ml of transmission oil until the transmission if full.
• The transmission oil must be up to the lower edge of the check and fill hole.
- Tighten the plug.
• It is not necessary to check the oil level again at this stage.
