Vehicle Information
Condition
This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle: Over time, the heat shield on the drive shaft may produce a rattling noise.
This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect until May 28, 2012. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:
- Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the 40H9 code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.
- Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
- Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
- Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.
Technical Background
On certain 2009 Audi TT vehicles manufactured within a specific period, it is possible that a heat shield was installed on the drive shaft in error by the factory. This heat shield is not necessary and may cause a rattle noise over time.
Production Solution
Service
1. Remove noise insulation (Figure 1).
2. Remove front passenger-side wheel.
3. Remove heat shield (Figure 2) on the passenger side of the drive shaft.

Required Customer Notification

Required Parts and Tools
Destroy and properly dispose of removed parts in accordance with local, state and federal/provincial environmental regulations.
