Supercedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 91 number 07-61 dated December 12, 2007 to revise header data controlling display in ElsaWeb.

Affected Vehicles

Popping noise through Bose speakers when starting vehicle (DTC 01042 and/or 02762)

Condition

^ When the ignition is turned on, a cracking or popping noise is heard through the BOSE sound system.

^ DTC 01042 (control module not coded) and/or DTC 002762 (system reset) must be stored in the amplifier Addressword 47 - Sound system.

^ Only the BOSE (PR-Nr. 8RY) sound system is affected by this condition.

Technical Background

The BOSE amplifier loses its coding.

Production Solution

New software in the BOSE amplifier control module (J525) resolved the problem.

Service

1. Coupe: Recode addressword 47 - Sound system through Guided Fault Finding by running the function test plan for the DTCs or selecting the following:

GFF >> Go to >> Function / Component Selection >> Body (Rep.Gr. 01; 27; 50-97) >> Electrical equipment (Rep.Gr. 01; 27; 90-97) >> 01 - On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems >> 47 - Sound system Bose | J525 >> 47 - Control module coding (RG.91)

Roadster: Recode addressword 47 - Sound system. Use code 236126.

2. After recoding, check the software part number and software level in the BOSE amplifier control module (J525).

3. Prior to beginning the SVM process, insert a USB memory stick into the VAS 505X tester to capture the diagnostic log electronically. In case TAC support is required, attach the diagnostic log to the ticket. The TAC will need this log to assist you.

4. Update the BOSE amplifier control module (J525) using SVM action code as shown in the table above if necessary. The SVM code is 8J47A001.

Tip:

The SVM Process must be completed in its entirety so the database receives the update confirmation response. A warranty claim may not be reimbursed if there is no confirmation response to support the claim.

For further SVM update instructions and troubleshooting, please refer to the SVM Operating Manual; ElsaWeb TSB 2011732.

Warranty

When procedure applies to vehicles under warranty, use the table above.

Required Parts and Tools

Amplifiers are not allowed to be replaced for this condition and claims will be denied.
