Steering Angle Limiter: Service and Repair
Steering Arm Boundary
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1332)
• Box end wrench insert (V.A.G 1923)
Removing
- With vehicles with air suspension, place vehicle on hoist. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.
- Remove front wheel.
- Clean outside of power steering gear in area of boot.
- Check boot for wear (slits, cracks) and check sealing surfaces of boot for dirt.
- Open clamp and push back boot.
- Remove tie rod using (V.A.G 1923).
- Remove steering arm boundary - 1 - from steering rack.
Installing
• Note location of steering arm boundary.
Large steering arm boundary contact surface - arrows - faces toward tie rod. Collar - 1 - points to steering gear - 2 -.
- Place steering arm boundary - 1 - on steering rack.
- Install tie rod on steering gear. Refer to => [ Tie Rod ] Tie Rod.
- If steering arm boundary was removed or one was installed, perform axle alignment. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
- Install wheel and tighten.
- On vehicles with air suspension, position vehicle on wheels. Refer to => [ Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels ] Positioning Vehicle on Hoist and Wheels.
