Instruments - Inaccurate Fuel Gauge Readings

90 Fuel gauge does not recognize when tank is filled

90 10 16

2019641/2

August 12, 2010

Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 90 number 08-25 dated December 17, 2008 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

CONDITION

The customer may report that the fuel gauge does not accurately reflect the fuel level after the tank is filled. Vehicle fuel reading may be lower than the actual fuel level.

Two situations are possible:

^ If there was no fuel warning, the current fuel values are accurately reflected only after a relatively long journey.

^ If there was a fuel warning, the warning stays in place and the fuel gauge and range display do not change. This can only be altered by a reset of the dash insert.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

If the ignition is switched off while the vehicle is still moving and then fuel is added to the tank, the dash insert may not reflect changes in the fuel level.

Only dash inserts with software version 0131 are affected.

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

Software 0133.

SERVICE

A software update of the dash insert has to be performed via SVM.

SVM Update Instructions

1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

2. Update the dash insert using SVM action code as listed in the table above if necessary.
