Affected Vehicles
Condition
Parking brake indicator stays illuminated after releasing the parking brake.
The parking brake completely disengages although the parking brake indicator remains illuminated.
Technical Background
The parking brake damper can become weak over time. When releasing the parking brake, the pedal may not return to the end stop position, and the parking brake indicator will stay illuminated.
Production Solution
The amount of oil in the damper was reduced and the pressure increased.
Service
Replace the parking brake damper as described below.
Tip: Do not replace the entire parking brake assembly.
Tip: Removal of trim panels is not necessary for the parking brake dampener replacement.
1. To remove the damper, lift locking clip with screwdriver.
2. Remove the damper from the anchor ball.
3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 on the pedal side.
4. To install the new damper, note the original installation direction of the damper (Figure 3).
Push the damper ball socket onto the anchor ball. Ensure the locking clips snap into place.
